Delve into the profound wisdom of the Quran and the Sunnah, guiding principles that illuminate the path to peace and understanding.
What is the Hadith?
A Hadith is a report of the sayings, actions, or approvals of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). It serves as a primary source of guidance in Islam, second only to the Quran. Hadiths help explain and provide context for Quranic teachings and cover various aspects of life, including worship, ethics, law, and daily conduct.

Each Hadith consists of two parts:
- Isnad (Chain of Narration) – The list of people who transmitted the Hadith.
- Matn (Text of the Hadith) – The actual words or actions of the Prophet (ﷺ).
Scholars have classified Hadiths based on their authenticity into categories like Sahih (authentic), Hasan (good), Da’if (weak), and Mawdu’ (fabricated). The most reliable collections of Hadith include:
- Sahih Bukhari (by Imam al-Bukhari)
- Sahih Muslim (by Imam Muslim)
- Sunan Abu Dawood
- Jami’ at-Tirmidhi
- Sunan an-Nasa’i
- Sunan Ibn Majah
About Sahih Al-Bukhari:
Sahih Bukhari is one of the most authentic and respected collections of Hadith in Islam, compiled by Imam Muhammad ibn Isma’il al-Bukhari (810–870 CE). It is considered the most authentic book after the Quran by Sunni Muslims.
Key Features of Sahih Bukhari:
- Authenticity – Imam Bukhari applied strict criteria to select Hadiths, ensuring only the most reliable narrations were included.
- Total Hadiths – It contains about 7,563 Hadiths (including repetitions), but without repetitions, there are around 2,600 unique Hadiths.
- Structure – The book is divided into 97 books (chapters), covering topics like faith, prayer, fasting, business transactions, ethics, and more.
- Criteria for Selection – Imam Bukhari only included Hadiths with an unbroken and reliable chain of narrators (Isnad) and strong, consistent content (Matn).
- Title: The full title is “Al-Jami’ al-Sahih al-Musnad min Hadith Rasulillah wa Sunanihi wa Ayyamihi”, meaning “The Summarized Collection of Authentic Hadiths Narrated from the Messenger of Allah, His Practices, and His Times.”
Hadith is essential for understanding Sunnah, the way of the Prophet (ﷺ), which helps Muslims practice Islam correctly.
